US President delivers another trade blow to India, revokes exemption on Iran’s Chabahar port
U.S. President Donald Trump has dealt another trade setback to India by revoking the sanctions waiver previously granted for Irans Chabahar Port. According to Indian media this move has sent alarm bells ringing for Indian companies investing in the port.
The U.S. State Department stated that the exemption was lifted to increase pressure on Iran. As a result Indian operators involved in the Chabahar Port project may now face U.S. sanctions. The decision will take effect from September 29, 2025. Chabahar Port is a strategically significant trade route for India providing access to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
In a separate development the United States and the United Kingdom have signed a major technology partnership agreement. U.S. President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer formalized the deal during the Presidents visit to the UK at Chequers.
According to a report by the BBC the agreement aims to deepen cooperation between the two nations in the field of technology. President Trump stated that the new agreement is already spurring a wave of private sector deals. He announced a partnership between U.S.-based X-Energy and U.K.s Centrica to deploy nuclear reactors across Britain.
Trump noted that this agreement had been “in the air for years” and has now “finally become a reality.” He also highlighted that the U.K. was the first country to sign a trade agreement with the U.S. earlier this year emphasizing that the relationship between the two nations is deeply valuable and rooted in a shared legacy. Both governments he said are committed to strengthening these ties more than ever.
